“I’m teaching three classes for Common Ground on the Hill, July 5-10. Common Ground is one of those teaching camps, like Elkins or Spirit of the Woods, one of many activities it engages in. I’ll be involved in my own class, Blues Icons, which is a bottom-up look at how what we call Blues develops in communities of origin, spreads regionally and ultimately internationally, out of humble workaday music flopping over into Friday night. I’ll also be involved in the Juke Joint class, a hands-on guided acoustic tour of Pre-war repertoire. Thirdly, I’ll be assisting Barry Mitterhoff, mandolinist superb, in teaching the repertoire of the band Hot Tuna. Barry played mando for them for over a decade. Much of that repertoire comes from the Rev. Gary Davis, who is my own specialty.”
